Other than that, however, Union Station is a nice spot to wait for a train or to experience a layover between trains. As a working train station, Union Station is functional, but it is becoming "too popular for it's own good"! Many gates are overwhelmed with more passengers than can be accomodated in the seating areas, as a resulted, one should expect to stand in line to wait for trains. I have traversed through the station many a time when traveling back and forth between my home city and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is also a building of great historical and architectural interest. Union Station is a working station - it serves as the hub for most of Amtrak's routes to/from the Midwest, plus several regional lines and Chicago mass transit.
